Two (2) Early Signed Santa Clara Pueblo Black Ware Pottery Bowls, Howard Naranjo ?
These wonderful Santa Clara Pueblo Pots came from an Estate of a wealthy collector who retired in our area. We acquired them from her daughter who was selling her collections of her mother who passed away in her early 90s. She spent a lot of time in Santa Fe over the years and became quite familiar some of the potters and the market place and galleries there. The family was willing to let go of a few pieces. The larger pot is signed Howard Santa Clara (possibly Howard Naranjo?) and is beautifully decorated and has a unique geometric cutout. It measures approx. 4 3/4" tall and 6" wide across the widest area of the body. The mouth is approx. 4" wide. In beautiful condition, no damage. Glowing finish, interior good, no soiling or stains.
The second pot is a deeply carved pot that has some of the signature still visible, but it is not legible enough for me to decipher. Maybe some of you collector's with a knowledge of signatures will be able to figure it out. It is also in nice condition, but does have a couple of small "rubs" to the in the glossy area in a couple of places (see photos). It measures approx. 3 1/4" wide x 2 1/2" tall.
