This is a fascinating sword! This isn\'t a Regular Model 1860 Cavalry sword ( Ames, Roby, etc! Its a Henry Boker M1860 Saber. Some experts say its best built saber of its time. The saber parts were made in Solingen, Prussia (Germany) and they were shipped to the US and assembled. All the saber parts were made with Prussian (German) Steel and Brass! One of the very few if any Imported sabers used in the Civil War! Due to its popularity at the time not many of these are in circulation.
TheHenry Boker Solingen swordis a fascinating piece of history.
  1. Imported U.S. Model 1860 Cavalry Officer’s Sword and Scabbard:

    • This sword was manufactured byHeinrich Henry Boker & CompanieinSolingen, Prussia.
    • It follows the design of theU.S. Model 1860cavalry sword, which was widely used during theAmerican Civil War.
    • Key features include:
      • Brass hiltwith a cast eagle and stars on the counter-guard.
      • Two foliate decorated branchesconnecting to the knuckle bow and shield.
      • Foliate molded pommel.
      • Black leather-covered gripwith twisted brass wire wrapping.
      • Curved single-edge bladewith a false edge at the tip.
      • Etched foliate scroll, eagle, and US decorationon the blade.
      • The ricasso is marked with“HENRY BOKER/SOLINGEN”.
      • The sword comes with aniron scabbardfeaturing two suspension rings.
    • Blade length:34 1/2 inches; overall length:40 5/8 inches1.
