This is such an unusual, uniquely-decorated vintage Japanese jewelry music box, that I've never before seen one quite like it. Covering most of the top is an artist-signed in Japanese characters, superb etched or carved brass plate (possibly Chokin art) in extremely elaborate details of a Japanese temple or pagoda scene. The carvings are so minute in detail & almost cover the entire area, with no open spaces--just outstanding. The Japanese characters are located at the lower left corner of the brass art plate.(see Photo #7)
The trim around this awesome artist-signed etched or carved brass plate has an Art Deco decor of red & black lacquer stripes on top, & then around the entire sides of the box are 2 quite unusual red lacquer Asian dragons whose bodies extend around the sides & back of the black lacquer box--quite different from the usual scenic decor on other lacquer boxes. Measuring 7 1/2" L x 5" W x 4" Tall, this is one uniquely decorated vintage Japanese jewelry music box.
When opening the lid, the music begins to play its exotic & beautiful WWII-era song, "China Night," that is still immensely popular today. Inside the lid is an unusual diamond-shaped beveled glass mirror that is still gorgeous but does have some normal cloudiness due to age. Also inside when you open the lid are 2 raised up covered compartments with tasseled lids, & they can hold the original tasseled key to lock & unlock the jewelry box, in addition to holding even more of your jewelry than the regular area of the inside of the box.
The song "China Night" is played perfectly by the Fugi music box mechanism, & as part of my restoration of the box, I have oiled the music box mechanism to keep it playing flawlessly for many more years, for this is indeed an heirloom-quality jewelry-music box that should be passed down to the generations, to be used, enjoyed, & cherished for years to come.
Look over all the photos as part of the description--enlarge, enhance, magnify them--to judge for yourself the extreme, unique beauty of this artist-signed exquisitely-carved or etched brass art scenic top, together with the Art Deco style of the striking red & black lacquer dragon decor--if you love the truly unique appearance of this antique box together with its exquisite Japanese song played so perfectly by the vintage music box, then this one is truly for you!
