ABOUT THIS MUSIC BOX
This is a wonderful mid century Thorens music box. It was purchased in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1962. The Swiss shield walnut box is iconic and it has a lovely caramel finish. The FOUR classic tunes complement the box perfectly. It would make an amazing gift or addition to your own collection.
Lift the lid to reveal a Swiss Thorens 4/50 musical movement — four songs on 50 notes. The movement is clean and looks great, with small patina spots on the cylinder. Thorens is an excellent name on the music box industry. They produced cylinder music boxes starting in 1883 and were eventually purchased by Reuge.
This box winds up smoothly and works precisely. It switches between the songs perfectly. The original tune label is present.

CONDITION
The walnut case is in very good condition. It is structurally perfect. The finish is in great shape with no crazing. There is a small ding along the back edge. There are also an unusual area with parallel cuts(?) on the back side near the bottom. Please see the pictures for the beauty and character of this piece!
The music box movement sounds excellent. These little shield boxes throw a LOT of sound. The box was cleaned, lubricated, and lightly reconditioned. It retains 100% of its original look and feel. There are NO squawks or buzzes that can be present in old music boxes. The sound is clear, bold and fills the room.
