Original1939 Hotel Shaw brochurewith birds-eye-view map of San Francisco and vicinity, printed morethan 83 yearsago.

  • The front cover has adramatic head-on view of the hotel,built on the site of the former Callaghan Building, at the gore ofMarket and McAllister at Jones Street.
  • A sparkling silver ink gives the cover an extra touch ofcharm, and thebrochure opens to 7¾" x 14".
  • There are photographs of the hotel's lobby and one of theguest rooms.All rooms had "hand phones, night lamps, bath, shower, and circulatingice water." Room rates were $2.00 to $3.50.
  • The brochure includesa referenceto the 1939 Golden Gate International Expostion, "A Pageant of thePacific," which showcases the products and cultures of the nationssurrounding the Pacific Ocean, with San Francisco serving as thegateway. Among the fair'sfeatured installation was "The Tower of the Sun," an 80-ft statue ofPacifica, depictedon the front cover of this brochure.
  • Condition: The brochure folds to 7¾" x 3½" andis in excellentcondition, bright and clean, withno marks, rips, or tears. Pleasetake a look at the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
  • Footnote: The hotel retained its name as theHotel Shaw until 1982,when its name was changed to Hotel Miramar. It was then renamed theUnited Nations Plaza Hotel, and today it is known as the Renoir Hotel.
