Kachina dolls are made by the Pueblo Indians of the Southwest. The origin of the Hopi Kachina is lost in Legend. These dolls represent the masked adult Hopi who appear in religious dances, as an impersonator of a Kachina spirit. These religious ceremonies of the Hopi Indians of Northern Arizona are famous for their beautiful \"Kachina\" dances. The dolls are carved and given to the children of the tribe that they may learn to recognize and respect the various Kachinas. The Hopi look on them as friends and endow them with many human qualities.
