Byronsubsequently composedThe Prisoner of Chillonin a few days whilestaying with Shelley and others at a hotel in Ouchy. The poem was probablycompleted by July 2, 1816. The historically famous prisoner of Chillon wasFrançois Bonivard (1496-1570). The prisoner in Byron’s poem was imprisoned forrefusing to forsake his father’s faith. The actual story of Bonivard is rathermore earthy. The booklet has 47 pages and a pull out map in the back of the book.
