• Description: A very nice vintage cast iron doorstop. The doorstop is cast in the form of colorful heron standing. The heron has a gold colored head with some red colored highlights a white eye with black pupil. The heron's body is colored in blue with gold and red highlights. The bird is standing on what looks like rocks. The doorstop has a flat base and shows the details of the rocks and the bird's foot. The casting is very well done and shows details of the head, the feathers in the wing, and the details of the rocks. The back of the piece is painted in blue and shows the number "83" and possibly a "6" to its right near the base. The bottom of the base is covered with green felt and shows minor rust spots. A beautiful and rather rare doorstop worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of the description.
• Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 20th century.
• Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern, Pennsylvania, USA.
• Size: Measures ~7 1/2" in height with the base measuring ~5" by ~2 3/8". The piece weighs about 3 pounds.
• Maker: Albany Foundry Company.
• Marks: Has the number "83" stamped on the back and possibly the number "6" stamped next to oit near the bottom of the back.
• Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and uncommon old doorstop. It weighs about 3 pounds and almost and is in exquisite condition with minimum losses to the beautiful coloring. A beautiful piece which would display very well in your collection of doorstops.
• Condition: This doorstop is in excellent good condition with no breaks or repairs. It retains most of its original coloring (estimated > 97%) with minimum wear and loss of coloring. The colors are vivid and beautiful. The felt on the bottom of the base shows some losses, soiling and wear. There are a few minor spots of rust which are seen on the base but are not evident elsewhere on the piece. All of this does not distract from the piece's beauty and quality.
