Jean Luce French Line Ashtray
After researching I believe this is from the SS Normandie
but I am not an expert. Here is what I found regarding this ashtray:
Jean Luce (1895-1964) designed this ashtray for the SS Normandie ca 1930. The owners of the Normandie first had the ship's name on the ashtray, but passengers slipped them into
suitcases and pockets as souvenirs. This version replaced "Normandie" with "French Line".
This ashtray is tan glass with brown CGT~ Compagnie Generale Transatlantic~ emblem on the top.
The bottom is marked "Jean Luce Paris France". It measures 3 1/4" by 2 3/4". Weighs 2-3 oz.
This comes from the estate of a local architect and collector. It has been used and shows crazing
and bits of discoloration from cigarettes and age. This is an important piece of transportation history and a lovely
collectible art deco item. This will be packaged carefully and shipped to you quickly.
Please email with questions. Happy to answer you quickly or correct errors I've made. I'm neither expert,
nor collector.
