Up for sale is a vintage/antique Halloween costume along with Dennison Crepe paper and a crepe paper decoration.
The costume consists of an antique black cloth skirt that measures approximately 32 inches at the waist and 39 & 3/8 inches in length. It is 51 inches in width at the bottom of the skirt. I believe that this skirt was handmade with the use of a machine. There is an approximate three-quarter-inch binding sewn around the interior of the waistband. The closure consists of two hooks and eyes on the waistband with three descending hook-and-eye closures allowing for a 10-inch opening. Seven pieces of fabric are sewn together from the waist to the hem. Two ruffles are sewn around the bottom of the skirt. The front panel is decorated with 10 buttons, with five buttons on each side of the panel.The fabric is thinning around the waist, and two small patches are applied to the interior of the skirt as perhaps an old repair or reinforcement. There is a small (less than half an inch) three-corner tear on the bottom ruffle. An occasional bit of oxidation is noted to this skirt (we tried to take a photo of the most apparent bit of oxidation, please see our last photo). In this area of oxidation, a tiny area has opened; this is hard to see in the photo. Despite these flaws, this piece does seem stable and intact. I am uncertain of the exact date, but I believe it to be at least from the early 1900s (perhaps a bit earlier?).
A gauze mask is also part of this costume. It measures approximately 8 inches in width and 6 inches in height. The mask has blonde \"hair\" sewn on, blue eyes, pink cheeks, and red lips. The original string to hold the mask on remains intact.Some soiling and wrinkling noted, please see photos.
A plain black eyemask was also found with this costume. It does not have its original string or elastic.
There is also an attractive crepe paper hat. I am unsure if it is handmade or purchased. It is approximately 11 inches wide and 12 inches in height at its highest point.It is an orange crepe paper hat with black crepe decoration. The ends of the black crepe are crinkled.It also adorned with a black scare cat (with green eyes) sticker that reads \"MADE IN USA\".This hat has black paper trim with some tears.
Also with this lot is a crepe paper decoration that is bright orange and has a witch flying across the moon, scare cats, jack-o\'-lanterns, and bats.This paper measures approximately 27 inches in height. The paper appears to have been doubled over and sewn at the top, perhaps to wrap around a table or decorate the home.It has obvious damage, and we have included photos to illustrate this. The crepe paper is fragile at best.
There are five witches flying on broomsticks made of heavy black paper. These appear to be handmade.One has two pinholes and one has the tip of her hat bent.
There are three packs of Dennison Crepe paper embossed as \"AMBER 144\".Two of these packs are empty, and one of these empty packs has penciling on the front.The pack that does contain crepe paper has not been unraveled, and I\'m not completely sure that it\'s full.The backs of these packs include tips for using this paper and ads for Dennison craft books, as well as a list of 51 shades and colors.These packs are circa 1930\'s.
These vintage Halloween items have been in the same box for many years. This is authentic, no reproductions.An uncommon lot that you won\'t see often. Great for the collector or the Halloween enthusiast.Happy Halloween, and happy offerding!
