Capture the essence of the Adrian R. Woodall (1888-1969) Folk Art Carved and Painted Wood Figure with this unique piece signed by the artist himself. Standing approximately 8.5" tall this sculpture I believe is called "The Preacher" this captivating sculpture showcases Woodall's masterful craftsmanship and creative vision. Born and raised in the heartland of America, Woodall's talent for sculpture emerged during his years as an optometrist. His passion for art led him to produce around two hundred figures, each a unique expression of his creativity. This particular piece, signed "ARW" 1950 on the bottom of the base, is a testament to Woodall's dedication to his craft. Add a touch of folk art charm to your collection with this exquisite wooden figure. I don't see any damage or repairs to this wonderful figure, but see pictures for overall condition. I have 2 more of these wonderful figures I will be listing, so be sure to see my other sales.
Adrian R. Woodall was born on November 12, 1888, in Christian County, Missouri, and was reared on farms in Missouri and Oklahoma. His schooling, which at no time included art training, was received in Oklahoma. As a boy, he had two ambitions: one was to draw, and the other was to raise livestock. Circumstances led him to optometry as his profession for twenty years. However, during these years, he discovered his talent for sculpture. Over the years, Woodall exhibited his work in museums across the Midwest and participated in prestigious art exhibitions. Upon retiring from optometry in 1936 due to health reasons, Woodall moved to Florida, where his hobby became his livelihood. His last work carving was done in 1959, and he passed away on October 7, 1969. Explore our other listings to discover more ARW sculptures and own a piece of art history!
