The 1st Liaison and Observation Squadron was created through Notice nº 57, of July 20, 1944, with the purpose of providing the Divisional Artillery (AD) of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in italy with the necessary aerial means for regulating artillery fire, observation battlefield aerial and command liaison to AD. The history of the 1st ELO\'s participation in World War II can be read here.After returning to Brazil, the 1st ELO was extinguished, at the FAB, through Notice nº 75, of October 11, 1945; its personnel were distributed among other units and the Piper L-4H Cub aircraft were stored at the Afonsos Aeronautics Park – PAAF.Ten years later, the 1st ELO was recreated, through Decree nº 38,295, of December 12, 1955. The squadron was based in Campo dos Afonsos, through Ordinance nº 1028/GM2, of December 22, 1950. Initially equipped with the Cessna L-19A Bird Dog, the 1st ELO once again had the mission of supporting the Brazilian Army – EB, performing artillery fire regulation, liaison and observation missions and also supporting the training of EB aerial observers.In addition to the L-19A, the 1st ELO also used the Neiva L-6 Paulistinha, Cessna L-19E Bird Dog, Bell OH-13G and OH-13H and Neiva L-42 Regente ELO aircraft.On July 19, 1972, the 1st ELO was deactivated, through Ordinance No. 019/GM3. Parts of its personnel and material joined the 1st Reconnaissance and Attack Squadron – 1st ERA and the 3rd Liaison and Observation Squadron – 3rd ELO, forming the 1st Mixed Reconnaissance and Attack Squadron – 1st EMRA; another part, together with the personnel and material from the 3rd Reconnaissance and Attack Squadron – 3rd ERA, formed the 3rd Mixed Reconnaissance and Attack Squadron – 3rd EMRA.Payment
