>> Your bayonet is the German 1884/98 2nd Pattern Bayonet which was one the standard bayonets used by the Germans during WWI. Made with wood grips held by two slotted screws. There were approximately 10 different bayonet makers producing these models from 1915 through 1918 which ranged from very rare makers to those very common. These bayonets were used on the German 7.95mm 1898 Mauser rifle and carbine (Gew98, Kar98). The overall length of the bayonet is 380mm and the blade length is 255mm. There was no muzzle ring.

>> Your piece is a 2nd pattern 1884/98 sawback removed bayonet made by Deutsche Maschinenfabrik A.G., Duisburg and this particular maker for the sawback (and sawback removed) bayonets were not dated nor have the crown W marking (for King Wilhelm II of Prussia) but only had the German inspection marking on the top spine of the blade (and other parts of the bayonet to show the parts met military specifications). Your bayonet looks to be in very nice \'above average\' overall condition rating about 7 out of 10 (on a condition scale) with some loss of its original bright finish on the blade with some staining and no noticeable sharpening with some patina on the handle
>>Your bayonet does not come with its original all metal scabbard but has an Italian 1891 leather bayonet scabbard instead. The rarity of your piece is \'scarce\' rating about 6 out of 10 (on a rarity scale). This piece looks to be in nice overall condition which would still be very desirable by a bayonet collector but has the wrong scabbard.
Selling bayonet and scabbard together (although they are not originally a set) accepting offers.
