Very rare antique Wedgwood solid sage green and white jasperware large round medallion head of Medusa (Gorgons Head). In Greek mythology, Medusa was a winged human female with living snakes in place of hair, people who gazed upon her face would turn to stone. Relief is very protruding with indicate details.

Based on our research and the shape of the serif WEDGWOOD mark impressed by individual letters, it looks as if this medallion was created soon after the blue and white Medusa medallion designed by John Flaxman in 1776, c.1780-95.
