Zuni att Homer Vacit MultiStone Mosaic Inlay Pin Brooch Knifewing Museum Quality:
$849.15

Welcome!

This is a top quality knifewing pin by Homer Vacit. I previously thought it was Leo Poblano based on pictures in a book which is very similar work to this, but I've seen pieces by Homer Vacit now, Frank Vacit's younger brother and the use of the stones is unquestionably his. He juxtaposed red abalone with black jet on his pieces in a very distinctive way. Both men were geniuses at this work and this pin is so great. It in excellent vintage condition and it is one of his classic pieces, made of the most excellent quality stones. The mother of pearl is radiant, seems like abalone in parts, and the spondylus and turquoise contrast beautifully with the jet and mother of pearl. The spondylus is beautiful old shell; it's radiant, too. Both are pale in color but so alive that they create a superb pale palette with the turquoise and jet. The work is very good with fine detail that is far better than it looks in magnification on the pictures, because the work is so fine, with very slim pieces of inlay. The proportions on this one are very pleasing; aesthetically satisfying and balanced. The round head is one of Leo Poblano's classic styles (and also that of Leekya Deyuse) but I still think this is Homer Vacit's work. To make this more interesting, the silver work on this piece is identical to a piece by David Tsikewa. The silver work is simple and elegant with flattened twisted wire and stamped raindrops and wire earrings. All the names involved in this discussion and possible artists for this piece are among the greatest Zuni artists, so whichever made him, is one of the very best.

This pin is 2" tall and 2" wide. It is unmarked for silver content which is usual for the time it was made but tests as sterling silver and it's unsigned, which is also usual for that time. The locking clasp mechanism is fine. Condition is excellent vintage; there are no problems I can see and it's just gorgeous.

Leo Poblano and Homer Vacit were both considered among the best mosaic inlay artists on all Zuni history. If you want the best you can get for your collection and your enjoyment, this is it. I also have a Homer Vacit bracelet which is available separately in my store. This pin and another I have would be ideal with that bracelet. This is one of the most aesthetically wonderful pins one could wish to own. It's superb!
