THIS MAGNIFICENT WOODEN SCULPTURE OF CARVED BASSWOOD was created on the QUALLA EASTERN CHEROKEE INDIAN RESERVATION, probably 60s or 70s---found in an estate sale. THE BEAR IS ONE-PIECE CONSTRUCTION 13 1/2 in. tall and balances on a 6 x 6 in. stand.
DONE IN THE STYLE OF AMANDA CROWE, nationally recognized Cherokee carver (now deceased) who taught carving for many years in the Cherokee N.C. high school. PLEASE SEE MY PIC OF ONE OF AMANDA\'S BEARS, SIMILAR FORM, IN WALNUT----THE GRACEFUL CURVES AND ABSTRACT LINES EXEMPLIFY MS. CROWE\'S STYLE. Certainly the carver of this piece must have been one of her students.
QUALL CO-0P ARTS & CRAFTS TAG is attached to the bottom---the original tag.
UNSIGNED. Only flaw is a natural blemish in the wood over the stomach.
