Antique German Beer Stein Signed KB with Pewter Lid.
This is an old one. 0.5 liter beer stein, made in Germany circa 1895. It features a hunter and maiden on a dark green background on the front, with two German sayings on the side.
The mark "KB" for Karl Bueler is on the right of the man's foot. The lid is pewter.
This stein is made of cream stoneware covered by a glaze. It has some dinks indicative of its age, but many are covered by the glaze which means they probably happened during manufacturing.There is some crazing in the glaze. This piece is in excellent condition for its age.
It may have been made by the Mathias Girmscherd company which made steins of this type and started business in 1890.
The stein measures 6 inches; with the lid, 8 inches. It is 4.5 inches across at the widest point.
A rough translation of the saying is, "The heart remains glad with drunkeness and joke."
