View Larger Image   Stanley No. 9 1/2 Adjustable Throat Block Plane 1880's   Description: This is a very nice clean, adjustable throat block plane with the 1 5/8" wide cutter x 6" long. It is marked "PLAN" on the cutter, and that is about all we can read of the mark. It should be marked L. BAILEY, but the mark is stamped lightly, and it's hard to see the lettering. The radius of the stamp seems correct, as the Bailey mark was a radius at the top. The cutter is in good shape, is the correct shape, and size, and has the correct grooves on it, so it fits the cutter adjustment teeth correctly. This is a pre-lateral adjustment plane, most likely a type 6 or around 1885, as it has the smooth surface on the cap cover around the screw hole area. A nice looking plane with about 30% of it's original Japanning intact overall, very clean bare metal surfaces, and a good working adjustable throat, all with minimal wear and no rust. The cutter is sharp, and in good useable condition, no rust or pitting. The cutter is set at 20 degrees on this plane, and it's ready to use with plenty of stock left for future sharpening.
