White and black marbles were placed in the container and to vote you placed either a black or white marble in the metal receptacle. If someone voted with a black marble you were Blackballed and couldn't join the club, organization or whatever was being voted on. This method of voting dates back to Civil War times, perhaps earlier. This box measures 6 x 9.5 in. plus the handle and is 4.25 in. tall.
