Description & Item Details
• Item: Authentic Antique 1893 Columbian Electric Cigar Lighter Faceplate.
• Significance: Issued around the time of the famous 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition. It served as the decorative front facade for an early commercial tabletop or counter-mounted electrical jump-spark/resistance cigar lighter found in historic saloons and tobacco shops.
• Markings: Top banner reads PAT APPL'D FOR, and the shield features the deeply embossed text 1893 COLUMBIAN ELECTRIC CIGAR LIGHTER.
• Condition Considerations: It retains its original dark, uncleaned aged patina. It features standard mounting holes on the upper sides and lower tip. The text is crisp and clear, which heavily appeals to collectors of tobacco memorabilia and World's Fair artifacts.
