🌹This beautiful cigarette box is a rare vintage Daniel Marshall lacquered box made of stunning Madagascar Ebony Wood-From his first collection in the late ‘80’s. Handmade in California at Daniel’s factory-with attention to exquisite detail, this unique item would be a prized possession for collectors of tobacco memorabilia. I am pretty sure they were just about the price I am offering my boxes at in ‘88!
🌹I knew Daniel a year into this endeavor-he had been building a sailboat from his own design specifications, and had devised a unique, almost invisible hinge-it meant you could open the box with one hand, looking very smooth and suave! And look elegant at the same time…He then segued into designing fine Cigar Boxes, Humidors, Jewelry Boxes and gorgeous desktop accessories, etc-even his own line of very highly rated fine cigars! It was/is a very successful enterprise, and he was almost immediately selling to Dunhill-among others-(when I met him in Cannes one summer long ago (‘88 I believe), he was there for meetings with several big-time high-end purveyors). His pieces have become desired collectors’ items; the striking design, quality of craftsmanship and exotic materials have made wonderful pieces to acquire for any enthusiast of smoking accessories. Just plain CLASS! I mean-if one is going to smoke…
🌹The box holds 8 cigarettes of any size…or-other smoking materials~ the bottom of the box has a gold tone plate for engraving-currently with the initials PTJ- it was a gift for a then-boyfriend…but we split before I had a chance to give it to him after engraving! I used it along with the other one I have listed; it is highly lacquered, there are light surface scratches from spending time in my purses over the years I smoked-but due to the lacquer and the dark wood, they really don’t show except in bright light at certain angles. I have a couple more of Daniel-designed boxes I will be listing; another chic-possibly more feminine-box, and a very cool matte Burled Briar wood business card holder. They have also been used, but are in VERY good condition as well. Originally DM items sold for hundreds and into thousands of $; hard to find, I didn’t find any other DM cigarette boxes on ; they were from his earliest line of creations in ‘88…I believe he phased them out in lieu of cigar accoutrements eventually…due to many boomers ceasing to smoke.
The box will come in a non-original velvet drawstring pouch to protect it..
🌹This box too can be opened with one hand, but being wider than the other box, and due to my thumbs being barely functional, I can’t include a vid of the hinge mechanism in action-
