*SCARCE* MARGUERITE KIRMSE BRONZE OF A SETTER DOG, LIMITED EDITION OF 30, GORHAM For Sale

Marguerite Kirmse (1885-1954) is one of America's most beloved dog artists. Her background in dogs as a breeder and owner of Scottish Terriers only added to her ability to portray dogs in their most realistic and most amusing lights.
Kirmse sculpted a limited series of bronze dogs which were produced by Gorham Foundry. Some of these bronzes are little known and quite scarce and desirable. This is her Setter dog from that series. I will let fanciers decide whether this is an English Setter, Irish Setter or Gordon Setter dog. Of the Kirmse bronzes that I have seen, this one stands out as quite exemplary. The stance is quite dramatic and eye catching, but the details really make this piece stand out. Outstanding breed type (Kirmse was a dog show judge), coat detail, and the expression on this bronze are truly superb. It is one of only 30 produced. Measures 4" tall by 4 1/2" long.
Condition is outstanding as well, with no scratches or damage to the original patination, which is still even and unworn and quite beautiful. The dog stands solidly on three feet, the fourth being raised on point. Unsigned, which I find to be typical for the rarer of these bronzes, and which I have seen on the Kirmse Sealyham and standing Scottie, both of which I have owned in the past.
