I have collected Best Logo Padlocks for over 50 years and this was in My Pile .
These are Called \"LA\" Locks , that are Now Obsolete , and Not In Use !!!These were used for Locking ALL Mail Bags , Until they went to Seals .You can see the Various Lettering Heights , Indicating Various Ages , and Manufacturing Differences .I Locked & Unlocked ALL of these --WITH THIS KEY--- and they All Worked !!To Lock , one of these , a Tool or Rod ( like a Phillips Screwdriver Shank ) must be used - DO NOT USE THE KEY - Unless you have 2 keys !!!This Key is Brass , Plated Iron Keys were also used . Keys were Attached , by A Long Brass Chain , & Swivel , to the Wall , in each Post Office .Notice how the Locks & Keys are Marked \"U.S. MAIL\" , and the Key is Marked \"LA\" along with a Serial Number .These were All Manufactured in the U.S. Postal Mail Shop , that was in Washington , D.C. , Now Closed !!
