Key Characteristics & Composition - The \"Turquoise Twin\": Variscite looks similar to turquoise, but while turquoise gets its blue-green hues from copper, variscite lacks copper entirely. Its striking green coloration comes from trace amounts of chromium and vanadium.
- The Color Palette: Unlike Nevada variscite (which often features heavy black \"spiderweb\" matrix lines), Utah variscite is famous for its pure, rich emerald-green to deep translucent teal colors, typically accented by fine white or gold-colored veining.
- Only in Utah: Utah variscite is uniquely fluorescent under UV light, a property not shared by variscite found anywhere else in the world.
- Texture: It ranks a 3.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it softer than turquoise and relatively fragile. It has a distinctive waxy to vitreous luster when polished.
