The East Thompson Railroad Co. was a short-lived, temporary corporate entity in Connecticut that played a critical, though minor, role in the turbulent history of the route connecting Boston and New York in the 1850s.
Core Connection: Its primary historical role was tied to the ambitious but financially failed Boston and New York Central Railroad (B&NYC) project.
The Lease: The East Thompson RR Co. briefly leased and operated the entire B&NYC line (1855-1858) in a failed attempt to keep the vital Boston-to-New York route running during B&NYC's financial collapse.
Condition: I am not a professional and this comes from my father’s collection of antique stocks & bonds. Given its age, it seems in good condition. This rare unissued stock shows age related toning, foxing, some edge wear but no tears. The font is clear and it is printed by T. Groom & Co., Stationers Boston.
