1870s Trade Card for SODA WATER at PESCUD, LEE & CO. Drugstore in RALEIGH NC For Sale

Advertising trade card for soda manufactured byPescud, Lee & Co. of Raleigh, North Carolina, circa 1870s to 1880s. The card(just over 2” by 3 ¾”) has a multi color illustration of a flower at left withprinted text in black that reads Soda Water Dispensed with Choice Syrups at AllSeasons, by Pescud, Lee & Co., Raleigh, N.C. The son of a wealthy druggist,John Shaw Pescud (1846-1918) grew up in Raleigh during the Civil War. By 1870,he was working as a druggist and may have already taken over the familybusiness. By 1880, he definitely had his own drug store at 301 FayettevilleStreet and was living with his wife and children on Person Street. This cardindicates that his pharmacy had a soda fountain or counter. When he died in1918, his occupation was retired druggist. The trade card is in good conditionwith some light wear and soiling and the front. This card was removed from analbum, and there’s paper still glued to the blank bank. A nice early sodafountain trade card and a fun bit of Raleigh NC history!
