Newville was a significant stop on the Cumberland Valley Railroad, serving as a hub for the region\'s agricultural wealth and grain trade.
The message acknowledges a favor from December 31st and confirms a credit of $570.23 to the account of the Hagerstown Bank. The recipient, Joseph Kausler, was a prominent Maryland banker who served as the long-time cashier of the Hagerstown Bank, guiding it through the industrial expansion of the Cumberland Valley.
