Original 19th-century Pennsylvania QUADRIPARTITE INDENTURE, executed July 21, 1877 and recorded in 1878. Beautifully penned in iron-gall ink on heavy parchment/brief paper (“Medium Parchment Brief, Style A,” John C. Clark & Sons, Philadelphia imprint at top).
This deed settles/ conveys interests among multiple members of the Richardson family and related lines (Comly, Howland, Seaman, Gillam, etc.). It includes a rare period reference to “Elliott Richardson, Committee of the Estate of Rebecca Richardson (a lunatic),” reflecting 19th-century guardianship terminology. The document is packed with genealogical detail: full names, spousal relationships, legal description of the land, consideration paid ($2,365), witnessing language, and a column of ink signatures. Red embossed notary/public seal is present and crisp; there’s also a blue recording stamp dated JUN 8, 1878.
Condition is strong for age: legible throughout with normal folds, light edge wear/handling; small stains/toning at some folds (see photos). A fantastic piece for Bucks/Philadelphia-area history and for researchers of the Richardson/Comly/Howland/Seaman/Gillam families.
