RARE 1877 WELLS FARGO & CO.’S BANK CHECK – SAN FRANCISCO – GOLD HILL, NEVADA – BANK OF CALIFORNIA – POSSIBLE JOHN P. JONES ENDORSEMENT
Outstanding original 19th-century Wells, Fargo & Co.’s Bank financial document, dated April 28, 1877, during the height of the legendary Comstock mining era.
This historic check was issued through Wells, Fargo & Co.’s Bank in San Francisco and bears an impressive Bank of California, Gold Hill, Nevada collection/agency stamp on the reverse.
The document also features the recognizable signature of W. H. Blauvelt, identified with the Bank of California’s Gold Hill operation and appearing beside the printed designation “Cashier.”
🔥 Most intriguing is the large period endorsement on the reverse, which appears to read “J. P. Jones.”
The endorsement is attributed/believed to possibly be associated with John Percival Jones, the famous Nevada silver-mining magnate, Comstock figure and longtime United States Senator from Nevada.
The J. P. Jones signature has NOT been professionally authenticated, and this item is therefore being offered as an important historical document with a possible Jones association rather than as a certified autograph.
