On offer here is an ORIGINAL WILLIAM HENRY JACKSON MAMMOTH PLATE ALBUMEN PRINT OF 'MARIPOSA GROVE BIG TREES' FROM ABOUT 1880.
The albumen photo measures 16.25 in x 20.5 in on heavy 3/16th thick mount stock. The image (when compared with the Amon Carter Museum example) it has been trimmed 1/4 in on the lower edge (cutting off the lower portion of the photographers negative inscription) and 1/4 in on each edge for about 1/2 in in total horizontally. The image also has a very light almost undetectable toning / tide line at the far right edge.
The trimming was done for it to fit into the frame in which it was found (see image). The frame compliments the image but the photo given it's rarity and importance deserves a better archival frame. The frame is available to the prospective owner (complete w/ very old 19th c. glazing) at additional shipping cost.
Jackson mammoth plates don't surface often and we've not found another example of this 'Mariposa Grove Big Trees' image in the sale record in the last 40 years.
