ANTIQUE MUSTERSCHULTZ FIGURAL STEIN
Antique porcelain figural stein depicting a hign-wheel bicycle design on each flat side - measures 6-3/4\" tall. Featuring a canted finial in crest form embossed LAW, stein front bears a trailing ribbon decoration with the letters L.A.W., accented with oak leaves on the stein front - handle depicts the back wheel of a high-wheel bicycle.
Made in Germany by Musterschultz as marked, this was a special order stein for the League of American Wheelmen dating 1880s-1890s. Pewter rim has a porcelain insert - bottom interior is decorated with a whimsical and humorous lithophane of a man tipping off his high-wheel bicycle onto a female pedestrian (love her leg of mutton sleeves and chip hat).
Condition is very nice with no cracks, hairlines, repairs, discoloration, stains or damage other than a small chip off the top edge of the lid crest as shown - there are lighter areas here and there, especially on the oak leaves from how the color was applied. Just an amazing old stein - wonderful addition to any penny-farthing collection or display! I\'m including the little antique hi-wheeler card as shown.
