Offered here is a scarce group of three original stock certificates (Nos. 243, 244, 245) issued in 1881 by the New York, Pittsburgh & Chicago Construction Company. Each certificate is signed by Everett M. Culver as Trustee, adding both historical and collectible significance.
These certificates date to the height of America’s railroad expansion boom of the late 19th century, when construction companies were formed to finance, build, and manage critical rail infrastructure linking major industrial regions such as New York, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.
During this period, construction and railway enterprises were often funded through complex financial structures involving trustees and syndicates. Trustees like Culver played key roles in holding and managing securities on behalf of investors—similar to arrangements seen in major railroad financings of the era.
The 1880s marked a transformative time in U.S. industrial growth, with railroads and their affiliated construction firms driving westward expansion, steel production, and urban development across the Midwest and Northeast.
