Beautiful antique pair of Reward of Merit bird chromolithographs, both individually marked “Copyright 1882 by Stephen Gillson No. 353.” These two different bird illustrations are from the same series and have been preserved together in an approximately 16” x 16” framed display under glass.
Each Reward of Merit features a wonderfully detailed Victorian-era bird and floral scene surrounded by an ornate decorative border. Both retain their original handwritten presentation inscriptions, including the recipient and teacher information. These awards were traditionally presented by teachers to students in recognition of merit, achievement, or good conduct.
Both pieces are in exceptionally well-preserved antique condition. The colors remain remarkably bright and vivid, with beautiful greens, blues, pinks, reds, golds and natural tones. No obvious tears, significant staining, heavy foxing or major creasing are visible while framed. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.

The matching copyright and number confirm that the two different bird designs belong to the same Gillson Reward of Merit series.
The pair has been attractively displayed together with a deep green mat in a wood frame. The frame is a later addition and is not represented as original to the 1882 pieces.
