This fascinating rare and original historical print traces the Washington family pedigree and illustrates the Washington coat of arms and shield, believed to have inspired the design of the American flag. The piece includes early English inscriptions about Robert Washington of Sulgrave and other ancestors of George Washington, with reproductions of 17th-century tomb engravings.Printed by The New York Life Publishing Company (Root & Tinker), this rare document combines genealogy, heraldry, and patriotic symbolism. Condition toned with damp staining at bottom (in bottom margin, not impacting text or graphics), excellent detail and color with large gilt blocks, gilt strong and bright, complete and legible, appears to be original 19th century paper in an oak grain period frame, not under glass, not examined out of frame, not mounted. Rare to market in any condition. Frame size 23.5 x 29.5. Perfect for collectors of American history, George Washington memorabilia or antique prints.
