Fariss, the playersare posed in front of a large banner proclaiming them \"Champions of theUnited States\" following their dominant 1885 pennant-winning season. Ledby legendary player-manager Cap Anson, the White Stockings were one of thegreatest teams of 19th-century baseball, finishing the 1885 season with anoutstanding 87-25-1 record and earning a place in one of baseball\'s earliestWorld Series.
