THE ORIGINAL OWNER THOUGHT THIS "UNDER HOTEL BRUNSWICK" VARIANT WAS VERY RARE TO FIND.....AND HE WOULD KNOW...HE WAS THE LATE AUTHOR EDRICK MILLER WHO WROTE THE "BIBLE" OF CALIFORNIA DRUG STORE BOTTLES AND DOSE GLASSES...IT DOES HAVE A LITTLE TINY INTERNAL BRUISE (SMOOTH TO TOUCH) ON BACK SIDE NEAR THE BASE (see gallery image 7 & 8) WHICH IS REALLY NOT NOTICEABLE WHEN ON DISPLAY ...BUT THIS BOTTLE DISPLAYS WELL
THIS DRUG STORE STARTED EARLY...ABOUT 1887 IN OLD DOWNTOWN SANTA ANA....AND THIS "UNDER HOTEL BRUNSWICK" VARIETY SHOWS AS TOUGHEST ONE TO FIND....
HAVING GROWN UP IN THIS REGION OF ORANGE COUNTY YEARS AGO...I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT "BRISTOL STREET" IN SANTA ANA / COSTA MESA IS NAMED AFTER THIS DRUGGIST FAMILY.
THIS IS A NICE UNCLEANED SPECIMEN....HOPING YOU CAN TELL HOW NICE THIS ONE IS FROM MY AVERAGE PICTURE TAKING ABILITY :)...THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BOTTLE, JUST AS MENTIONED A TINY INTERNAL BRUISE ON THE BACK (see gallery)....CAN FIND NO OTHER DAMAGE, DISPLAYS NICELY
The historic old town of Santa Ana is located in Orange County...not far from Orange, Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Tustin California.
The bottle is what I would call light purple colored glass, it is medium size and stands about 4 1/8" tall ...and it is a very beautiful specimen, just has not been cleaned at all but glass is nice, but as mentioned a tiny internal bruise on back side down near the base (see images 7,8) which when on display you will not really see...but a reallyneat bottle. Crisp embossing on this one...... would turn deeper purple if exposed to sun
