1890s PLYMOUTH - TAUNTON - MARTHA\'s VINEYARD & WHITE Mtn\'s., NH SOUVENIR ALBUMS For Sale

We are offering four 1890s albums containing views of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. These views, which look very similar to photographs in texture and tone, were actually hand-drawn lithograph images based on photos. This process came to be known as the Glaser/Frey lithographic process, as it was developed by Louis Glaser of Leipzig, Germany and Charles Frey of Frankfurt. Many of the views show people and horse-drawn carriages.
1.) Pilgrim Plymouth (4 3/4\" x 6 1/4\") By Louis Glaser of Leipzig, Published in New York. The album consists of 17 views, with a few smaller insert views, including Plymouth Harbor; The First Street in Plymouth, Cole\'s Hill, the first burial place of the Pilgrims; Leyden Street (the first street laid out in New England); Town Square; The Old Fort; Old Burial Hill; Court Street; Court House; Myles Standish House; John Alden House; The Departure [of the Pilgrims] from Delft Haven, Holland (from a painting by Chas. Lucy) and Signing of the Mayflower Compact aboard the ship \"Mayflower\". **CONDITION** - Excellent
2.) Souvenir of Taunton, Massachusetts (5\" x 6\") By A. L. Ward, 16 Main St., Taunton.The album consists of 56 views of different scenes, historic buildings, landmarks, businesses and factories including - Rhodes Block; City Hall; Dickerman\'s [Dentistry?]; L.B. West Home Furnishings; Standard Clothing Co.; W.N. & M.G. 3.) Souvenir of Martha\'s Vineyard 1892-1893(5\" x 6\") This album does not give the publisher\'s name. It consists of 35 views including - Cottage City; Ocean Avenue; Hotels - Sea View House/Casino, Highland House, Prospect House, and Harbor View Hotel, Edgartown; Dr. Tucker\'s Cottage [mansion!] on Ocean Ave.; Seaview Avenue Looking North; Ellenworth Bridge, Sunset Lake and many more. **CONDITION** - views are Excellent. 4.) Souvenir of The White Mountains, New Hampshire (5\" x 6\") Published by Chrisholm Bros., Portland, Maine. Album consists of 24 views in color including - Jacob\'s Ladder, Mt. Washington Railway; hikers sliding down the railway track, single file while sitting on top of a tiny \"rail car\" built for one person [pretty daring!]; historic hotels - Crawford House, The Fabyan House, Mt. Pleasant House, The Old Willey House, Interval House and The Maplewood; Mt. Washington Signal Station; The Flume; Frankenstein Trestle; View of Bethlehem Street; The Forest Glen Spring Keeley Institute, No. Conway, NH and many more. **CONDITION** - views are Excellent; covers are Very Good with minor wear.
