Original albumen photograph showing the Place de la République in Arles, France, depicting the city square with the obelisk, Hôtel de Ville, and the Cathedral of Saint-Trophime, identified in period pencil on the mount as “Place de la République, Arles, hôtel de ville & cathédrale St. Trophime – Jan. 1891.” The photograph is mounted on its original thick card mount measuring approximately 16 x 13 inches, with excellent architectural detail and a well-composed street scene including figures in the square. Light age toning and minor surface marks consistent with a genuine late 19th-century albumen print.
