1898 Western Union Telegram – Wynnewood I.T. to Houston, Texas
Antique Western Union telegram dated November 14, 1898, sent from Wynnewood, I.T., to M. T. Jones Lbr Co. in Houston. The typed sender’s name reads “E. A. Butte Lbr Co.”
The message reads:
“Have you shipped the shingles answer quick”
This brief business message asks whether the shingles have been dispatched and explicitly requests an immediate response with the words “answer quick.” It captures an urgent request for a shipment update between two lumber businesses.
Features the Western Union Telegraph Company heading, Form No. 1571, “8 Collect” notation, and an 11:11 AM time notation.
Additional handwritten pencil notes appear across the lower portion. Portions are believed to refer to shingles being ready and awaiting a car. The complete cursive wording is uncertain; these interpretations are not guaranteed. Please examine the photos for your own assessment.

Condition: Noticeable age-related yellowing and browning, uneven discoloration, fold lines, and creasing. Small edge tears and nicks, corner wear, and a small puncture are visible.
