Claremorris Ireland.
3rd Dec. 1905.
Dear Mr. Devine,
Many thanks for your very kind letter and cheque. It is so kind and good of you to carry out the wishes of your dearly beloved father. I shall do my
[Page 2]part to carry out his wishes and I shall not forget your father and your brother in my prayers and in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
I am anxious to see America. If I find it convenient to see the greater Ireland, I shall visit Chicago and give
[Page 3][you] a call. And if it comes into your head at any time to visit this country I shall be pleased if you spend a few days with me.
To hear of the success of our people in America gives me much pleasure.
[Page 4]I heard that the Irish are a strong body in your city. Some people go as far as to say that you control the affairs.
In Ireland, we are fighting for Land Reform, University Education, and Home Rule. There are signs in the times for the good future of our country.
Sincerely yours,
M. J. MacHugh
