Original United States General Land Office land patent dated December 6, 1905, issued to Charles C. Clark of Comanche County, Oklahoma Territory, during the administration of President Theodore Roosevelt.
The patent conveys approximately 160 acres described as the Northwest Quarter of Section 9, Township 2 North, Range 8 West of the Indian Meridian, through the Lawton, Oklahoma Land Office.
This is an especially interesting Oklahoma document because it was issued in 1905, two years before Oklahoma achieved statehood in 1907.
The reverse bears period handwritten identification for Charles C. Clark along with an Oklahoma Territory / Comanche County recording notation and embossed official seals, showing that the patent was subsequently recorded locally.
The document retains its prominent embossed United States General Land Office seal on the front.
Please note that the Theodore Roosevelt signature appearing on the document is part of the official governmental execution of the land patent and is not being represented as a personally hand-signed Theodore Roosevelt autograph.
Measurements: approximately 10 1/2 x 16 inches.
Condition: Original antique condition with age toning, staining, handling wear and multiple original folds from storage and use. There is wear along the fold lines and some minor edge wear. Writing and printed text remain generally clear and legible, and the embossed seals remain well defined. Please examine all photographs closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
A substantial original piece of Oklahoma Territorial history, particularly appealing to collectors of Oklahoma history, Western Americana, General Land Office documents, genealogy and early 20th-century United States land records.
This document came from a longtime family collection.
