1905 Russo-Japanese War Heavy Artillery Regiments – (2) Large Cabinet Cards, Port Arthur
Pair of scarce, large-format original cabinet card photographs from the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905), depicting members of Japanese artillery regiments during the siege of Port Arthur. Each photograph measures approximately 15.5" x 12.5".
- One image shows members of the 42nd Regiment operating artillery.
- The second depicts the 12th Artillery Regiment preparing heavy firepower.
During the siege, Japanese forces struggled to overcome Russia's formidable fortifications at Port Arthur. To break the stalemate, the Japanese deployed massive 28cm howitzers, whose firepower was instrumental in dismantling Russian defenses. These images document key components of that artillery campaign.
The siege lasted over six months and marked a significant turning point in modern warfare. The Russo-Japanese War was the first major conflict in which an Asian nation defeated a European power, and it showcased Japan’s emergence as a formidable military force.
Condition:
Both cards show some handling wear and aging. One image has a visible crease in the matte running through the photo, noticeable primarily under direct lighting. Minor chipping and corner wear to both mounts. Overall, very good display condition.
