Original 1909 admission ticket for the “Big Night Smoker” given by the Big Night Club, held Saturday evening, August 14, 1909, at Strodman Heights Hall, 2620 Thrush Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri.
Smokers were formal men’s social gatherings organized by private clubs, featuring cigars, light entertainment, music, and a structured program. The wording “Select Programme” and the $1.00 members’ admission indicate a planned, members-only event rather than a casual gathering.
The ticket is personally issued, with period ink entries on the lines for “Presented to” and “Recommended by,” reflecting controlled admission and club sponsorship.
