Trefethen, Maine – A Desirable Discontinued Post Office (DPO)
The Trefethen Post Office operated on Peaks Island in Casco Bay from April 18, 1904 until March 31, 1913, when it was replaced by Portland Station No. 14. It served the growing summer community centered around Trefethen Landing and today is recognized as one of Maine\'s more collectible discontinued post offices.
Because of its brief nine-year lifespan, postal material bearing a genuine Trefethen cancellation is sought after by collectors of:

The community itself was named for the prominent Trefethen family, early settlers and landowners on Peaks Island whose name survives in Trefethen Landing and other local landmarks.
