Impressive circa 1920s Roman Catholic ecclesiastical document featuring a large portrait of Pope Pius XI surrounded by beautifully printed illuminated-style decoration.
The handwritten petition is addressed “Most Holy Father” and was submitted by the Spiritual Director of the Eucharistic Society attached to Saint Clare’s College, requesting the Apostolic Blessing for the society’s members.
At the bottom is the signature of Pietro Gasparri, one of the most important Vatican diplomats of the early 20th century. Gasparri served as Cardinal Secretary of State under both Benedict XV and Pius XI and later represented the Holy See in signing the historic Lateran Treaty of 1929, which established Vatican City as a sovereign state.
The signature compares favorably with documented examples of Gasparri’s autograph. It is being offered as found and without third-party autograph authentication.
An unusually decorative piece of Vatican and Catholic history with excellent display presence.
Approximately 12” x 15½” overall.
Condition: Antique condition with toning, light staining/soiling, edge wear, small tears/nicks and other age-related wear as pictured. Please examine all photographs closely.
