The first automatic savings bank for school children was "opened" at P.S. 4, Long Island City today with Mayor Hylan dropping in the first coin and Betty Gulick, world's youngest song writer and bedtime stories author dropping in the second. The automatic bank is of aluminum and molded in the shape and design of a modern bank building. The "banks" are to be placed in the main halls of the public schools desiring them. On the cornice are slots for nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars etc. Stamps, denoting the amount inserted are issued from the bank by tuning a crank, act as receipts for money deposited.Photo measures 8 x 10inches.
