1924 Original Press Photo.America's primitive Indians fast disappearing.
Photograph shows a remarkable view of one of the fast-disappearing Seminole Indian villages near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Seeking to evade the white man, these aboriginal natives have scoured the Everglades in search of an untouched wilderness. Unless evidence were presented, it would be unbelievable that such haunts are to be found in America today.
Note the crudely thatched houses on stilts, not unlike the abodes of South Sea cannibals. Still clinging to their rigid tribal laws, they are ruled by Chief Tony Tommy, who was re-elected to the highest position in the Seminole tribe for a period of ten years at the Green Corn Dance. These natives have dwindled down to about 700.
