An exceptional, sharp press photograph capturing two dories out on the frozen Charles River navigating thick surface ice and slush. Men armed with long poles work to clear a channel near the Larz Anderson Bridge so the Harvard University rowing crews could begin early spring practice. Note the visible lettering reading \"WELD\" on the hull of the farther boat, indicating equipment from Harvard\'s historic Weld Boathouse.
Captured by legendary Boston photojournalist Leslie Jones during his multi-decade tenure documenting daily life, collegiate athletics, and Boston infrastructure for the Boston Herald-Traveler.

Includes both the outer vintage kraft paper sleeve and the inner archival glassine envelope featuring original period pencil notation:
Condition: Very clean, sharp emulsion with excellent tonal range and deep contrast. Light age-appropriate edge wear and marginal silver mirroring consistent with 1920s silver gelatin glass plates; no cracks or chips to the glass.
