Current Events was produced specifically for classroom use, presenting American schoolchildren with the week's important national and international news together with photographs, maps, cartoons, statistics, questions and classroom exercises.
This surviving file offers a fascinating week-by-week look at what American students were reading while some of the most consequential events of the 1930s were actually happening.

The newspapers are extensively illustrated with original period photographs, political cartoons, maps, charts and advertisements.
Especially interesting are the surviving CLASSROOM MARKINGS.
Some of the educational question-and-answer sections were completed in pencil by the original student. A handwritten school paper titled "Origin of Political Parties" also survives within the file.
These additions help preserve the volume not simply as a collection of old newspapers, but as an actual piece of American educational history showing how a student used Current Events during the Depression.
