Original Vintage 1940s Fairmont Hotel Restaurant Menu 950 Mason Street San Francisco Bay Area California
The Fairmont opened on Nob Hill in April 1907, financed by Theresa \"Tessie\" Fair Oelrichs and named for her father, silver-mining senator James G. Fair; architect Julia Morgan led its restoration after the 1906 earthquake and fire gutted the nearly finished building. In the menu\'s decade the hotel passed to Benjamin Swig, who bought it in 1945 — the year it also hosted United Nations Conference negotiations, whose \"Big Five\" powers met nightly in the U.S. secretary of state\'s Fairmont penthouse. Still operating, it is a designated San Francisco landmark.
